Belarus-Qatari political relations

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the State of Qatar were established on February 16, 1996.

From 2001 to 2008 H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates Vladimir Sulimsky and from 2010 to 2013 H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates Aleksander Semeshko were accredited as a non-resident Ambassadors of the Republic of Belarus to the State of Qatar.

In November 25, 2013 H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar (concurrent) Roman Golovchenko presented his credentials to H.H. the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

From 2009 to 2014 H.E. the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation, H.E. Ahmed Al Midhadi was accredited as a non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus.

In May 2014, H.E. Soud bin Abdullah Zaid Al Mahmoud was appointed as the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation. In March 2017, he was succeeded by Н.E. Fahad bin Mohammed Al Attiyah. Despite the absence of accreditation to the Republic of Belarus, the named ambassadors traditionally undertake efforts to develop the Belarusian-Qatari bilateral relations.

Since June 29, 2014 the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the State of Qatar has started its work.

A political dialogue and regular exchange of highest and high-level bilateral visits have been supported.

On February 17 – 19, 2001 the state delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by H.E. the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has paid the official visit to Qatar.

In 2009 the reciprocal official visit of H.H. the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to the Republic of Belarus took place.

On August 15 – 16, 2011 the second visit of H.E. the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the State of Qatar took place.

In 2009 and 2010 the current Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani paid private visits to the Republic of Belarus (at that time – Crown Prince of Qatar, took office as head of the State of Qatar on June 25, 2013.).

In April, 2016 at the summit of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO) the meeting between H.E. the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and H.H. the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was held in Istanbul.

On October 29 – 30, 2016 the third official visit of H.E. the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the State of Qatar was held.

The current Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the State of Qatar H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani (at that time –Minister of Internal Affairs) visited the Republic of Belarus five times (the last time in 2012.).

In 1996 – 2017 the State of Qatar was also visited by H.E. the Deputy Prime-Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. the Minister of Tax Collection, H.E. the Minister of Defense, H.E. the Minister of Internal Affairs, H.E. the Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, H.E. Chairman of the standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly and by other high officials.

In 1999 – 2017 Belarus was visited by Qatari delegations headed by H.E. the Minister of Health, H.E. the Minister of Finance, H.E. the Minister of Transport, the head of the Qatar Investment Agency and other high officials.

A number of visits to Doha have been organized by the heads of the Belarusian security forces.

In April 2007, Minsk has hosted consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Qatar.

In 2009 – 2012 a series of visits to the State of Qatar were paid by H.E. the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

In April 2015, during a visit to Qatar H.E. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus (at that time – Valentin Rybakov), the third round of the Belarusian-Qatari ministerial consultations has begun.
